Comments: Best book on running I've ever read. I admit there are many genre's of running book, and I suppose the historical books always strike my fancy the best. But this book was truly inspiring in its descriptions of famous coaches, athletes and their stories. I thoroughly enjoyed all 415 pages. I dawdled through it in 2 weeks.

Of course you've heard of Pre (Steven Prefontaine), but he only arrived at Oregon in the late 1960s. Bill Bowerman began coaching great athletes at Oregon in 1948 and continued on through the late 1970s. The history of Hayward field and the way that the Eugene crowds filled the stadium and knowledeably urged great runners of all schools and nationalities on to great finishes is something I wished I'd experienced. The unbelieveable simplicity of the creation of the company that eventually became Nike, and it's flourishing amid a running revolution in America is also in this book.

Here is a series of great intertwined stories about people helping people to achieve greatness in any and all endevors. I wish I could be even a small part of such greatness.
