Comments: An unknown, but well-directed marathon. Only about 280 marathoners, which is good. Fewer is better in my opinion. But 850 people run or walk the half. The marathon starts at 7:00am and goes 6 miles north and back to the lake. Then the half starts at 8:00am and goes straight to the lake. This causes the front marathoners to have to run through the slower (walkers and slow runners) half-marathoners all along the lake path. The path is wide, but sometimes the slow folks get 4 abreast, which means you may do a lot of zig-zagging to get around them. About halfway to Bennett Bay, the first halfers start to go by, headed back to town (the half turns atop Bennett Bay hill, the full goes another two miles east along the lake and back). So as you head up Bennet Bay hill you're running the middle lane of the lake trail with slow runners on the right and fast runners returning on the left. Eventually you get another pass by the slower half-marathoners on the way back. All this traffic can slow the marathoners. But I actually like having someone to pass. It keeps me invigorated. On the whole, though, a well-run, well-supported marathon.
