Comments: A great little run in a place you would not normally visit. Since I have run this event in the past, I receive my invitation to attend every year in a hand-written envelope. Now that's service. None of that impersonal web site stuff. The town also has a small fair going on that weekend with a car show and some FFA stuff. Very homey. The awards for the race are these monstrous ribbons with a pig emblazoned at the top, and the t-shirts are cheap and always good (with some form of Porky every time). The race itself is 5 miles, and a very tough 5 miles. It starts in town and heads west. At mile 2 there is a VERY steep hill, and since it's an out-and-back course, you get to see it again from the other side. It's much easier coming back, though. The weather at St John in April can be anything from a sunny 70 to 30ish with sleet and driving wind. Odds favor the latter. Bring gloves and a ballcap to keep the sleet out of your eyes.
