2006 STP Seattle to Porland Ride

This year we had at least 15 monkeys in uniform, though not all rode as a group. We had three groups, in fact:
1) The usual team (suspects) riding a fast pace line and taking long breaks: Jason, Brian, Carl, Dan, Eric, Arthur and TBD.
2) The Easy cruising team: Lee & wife, Lee's brother & wife, and Andy.
3) The IS group: Kris, Kim, Bryan & wife.
Yes, I guess that's 16, if I could only remember the TBD.
Brian Setting Up: I think this is the evening prior to the ride. We chose to camp out at the start line this year for $5/vehicle. Despiite being harassed by a bunch of drunk monkeys who stole our flag in the middle of the night, it turned out to be a good choice.

Carl and Eric: We weren't sure there would be camping available, so once we saw the other tents, those of us who brought them set them up and we had a little circular came in which we played poker with 16 wildcards and bullshit and other silly games. We used peanuts for money. Here are Carl and Eric in the circle. Almost forgot -- Eric and Carl happened to have nearly matching sleeping bags. Eric accidentally got Carl's. Carl went around asking who was playing a trick on him. Nobody was, on purpose. Eventually we figured out that Eric has his beanis in Carl's bag all along.

Lining Up: Finding our bikes and stowing equipment. We made a 6:00am start this year. Maybe a bit too late, because we were in heavy traffic most of the first day.

Squeaky: I got 1400 miles on this bike last year, and 1600 this year. I was hoping for more like 3000 this year, but I guess there just wasn't enough comuting. It's a cheap bike and is so named because I just can't get the squeak out of the crank.

Eric: What else can you say.

Pace Line: From the rear. This was tough to do while riding. And I didn't even lose the camera.

Jaons and Dan: Though, from this angle it could be just about anybody.

Butter Up: About half way through the first day everybody was very glad that Eric had purchased an industial-sized bottle of butt-butter. You will notice our ACE support person, Casey on the right side of the picture. She did a great job and was everywhere waving the flag. Thanks Casey.

Carl Refueling: A bad idea of mine to have Carl pose like this. Such as it is.

Jason Chowing: In order to keep energy up, you have to eat pretty much all day.

Thanks also to Cody for driving the other support vehicle, and to Barb, Lee's mom for driving that group's support vehicle.
