The First Blue Monkey Event

The WSU 100K Relay

As we said before, the Blue Monkeys came into being because of the WSU 100K relay. Here are some of the images:
Team At Start: Just handed out the flags and we're all feeling festive.

Sean Atop the First Hill: We were an early starting team (expected to finish in the second half of the teams), but Sean got us a huge early lead on the early starters.

Jason Cruising: With the huge lead, Jason was able to relax and cruise.

Bryan Starting: Bryan had the tough downhill leg #3. A 2000 foot drop -- tough on the calves (and the blistered toes). He beat 7:00s, though. Notice the Blue Monkey flag in his Blue Monkey hat.

Paul Heading Out: The start of the long dry (hot) part of the race. It was only in the 70s, but we had been used to running in the 50s. It was hot.

Brian Chugging Along: Foo Blue Monkey, showing how he got his name. No, it's not his mustache! It's the fucked up way he runs, what with his shoulders all hunched up like that.

Cody Hits the Hills: Cody drew the anchor position in the relay -- an uphill leg with a total of 1800 feet climb.

Andy Finishing: We found a local high school cross-country runner as a ringer. He was probably the second fastest on the team.

Ron on his Way: The runners start to get few and far between this far along the course.

Kelly Pointing: Kelly showing us which direction he's moving. We couldn't really tell from his actual motion. At least we're satisfied that he knows which direction the finish is.

Kelly-Dave Hand Off: at the silos South of Pullman. The end is near (you should have seen Dave at the finish after running up Stadium Way).

Blue Monkey Staff Car: The vehicle from which we handed out all our Blue Monkey Flags. We think people cheered us because of the flags, but it could be they just felt sorry for us about our car.
