The 2005 WSU 100K Relay

This year we had beaucoup (sp?) turnout. We found enough running monkeys to make three 100k teams. And once we looked at who we had, we realized that we could have one very fast team if we put all the fast runners on one team. So we did. You will note that we only have pictures of the Speedy Blue Monkeys as they passed us on legs 5 and 6. I don't think they had a camera, and if they did, they didn't send us the pictures.
Here's a particularly good response to our call to attend by one of our esteemed English-major Blue Monkeys:

"Let others drink idly by, I shall be the monkey on the road, I shall gamble my life for the cause. Regardless of weather, it will be a good day to die. You have a better understanding of my abilities than I do. I am best in the morning, but let the leg I get reflect my lack of popularity. As I said, to die in your shoes, not a bad way to go."

Team Picture: I'm not sure this is all of us, but it's close.

The Start: From both the front and the back.

Brian Fearn: Leg 1 for the Shaggy Blue Monkeys.

Phil "Flip" Henderson: Leg 1 for the Evil Blue Monkeys. Father of Destry, who couldn't make it do to ACL problems.

Bill Thompson: Leg 1 exchange volunteer. The race is even run by the Blue Monkeys.

Getting Stamped: Here's Chris Bingley getting his motivational monkey stamp. It worked wonders. Both "Fun" teams, which did receive stamps, ran about 10 minutes faster than projected. The "Fast" team, which did not receive the stamps, ran about 15 minutes slower than projected. But that may be due to other factors, like the leg 5 runner failing to show up. Here's his excuse:

Guys,
Sorry that this is so last minute, but I'm having some swelling from the after effects of my little "procedure", so I'm going to have to cancel on my relay leg. I actually ran this morning to test it out, but it was pretty uncomfortable. Thanks for the invite anyway, sorry to be a letdown...I'm in crappy shape anyway, would be lucky to run 6:00 pace for my leg... Dave

Chris Bingley: Leg 2, Shaggy.
